Brought into the limelight by the passage of the 2019 Giro d’Italia, during the stage that ended in Pinerolo, the Montoso climb faced by Bibiana satisfies the palate of climbers. After less than 2 km from the start, an 11% section heralds the 9 kilometres of steep climb set mainly in the woods and full of hairpin bends.
In total, this climb, connecting the territory of the province of Turin to that of Cuneo, joining Bibiana and Bagnolo Piemonte, measures 8.9 kilometres and has an average gradient of 9.4%
Along the succession of curves under the chestnut trees, there are only very brief portions to take a breather, so much so that three kilometres from the summit there are 500 metres at 12% with a peak of 14%. In the following 500-metre segments the gradients are 11% and 10% respectively.
Having earned the well-deserved souvenir photo in front of the maxi stone inscription of Montoso, at 1,248 metres, the more daring can still climb up to the ski resort of Rucas.
ROAD CLOSED FOR 2 HOURS
The climb will be exceptionally closed to traffic for the occasion and will host a non-competitive ride open to all, with a special guest: Davide Cassani, former professional cyclist and TV commentator. The route, starting from Bricherasio, is ideal for road cyclists, but the initiative is open to fans of any type of bike and participation is free.
EVENT PROGRAMME:
The initiative is organised in collaboration with the Unione Montana del Pinerolese (which devised the Upslowtour-Pinerolese Terra di Bici project), the Unione Montana Valli Chisone e Germanasca and the Municipality of Bagnolo.
