The Legend of the Great Alps: 1,000 km amidst clouds and history

The 20K Heritage Rally is more than just a journey; it is an unrelenting test of endurance, taking you on a total expedition through the wildest and most majestic heart of the Alps. Spanning 1,000 kilometres with a significant elevation gain, this route is designed for ultra-bikepacking enthusiasts seeking the ultimate challenge against gravity, the elements, and their own limits.

The permanent route brings together Europe’s most rugged and epic military roads, 19^(th)-century fortifications suspended in mid-air and the Alpine passes that have shaped the history of cycling and exploration, all on a single high-altitude trail. Starting from the vineyards on the valley floor and reaching the great Alpine passes, the 20K Heritage Rally offers a raw and magnificent unsupported experience where you set your own pace alongside your bike and the mountains.

Why buy the GPX track?

This certified track is an essential tool for making the most of this permanent trail. Once you have completed your purchase, you will receive the definitive route, which is constantly updated, verified and geolocated. It features points of historical and scenic interest, as well as refreshment points. By joining the permanent 20K circuit, you are accepting the challenge and supporting the revival of these peaks.

When you purchase the GPX track and show your confirmation email at the Pinerolo Tourist Office, you can collect the following:

  • The ‘Lone Rider’ Passport, a paper booklet in which you can collect official stamps at the circuit’s checkpoints and partner establishments (mountain huts, inns, and bike hotels), which offer a safe place to rest for those tackling this monumental challenge with no barriers or time limits. This directly contributes to the maintenance and promotion of the permanent historic routes, as well as supporting the local economies of the Alpine valleys.

  • The Official Finisher’s Diploma: Once you have completed your journey and collected all the stamps in your passport, you can collect the exclusive Finisher’s Diploma from the Pinerolo Tourist Office. This attests to your achievement and certifies your name in the register of those who have conquered the Great Alps.
