MUSIC & SHOWS
The inaugural concert of the Concerti del Lingotto series will draw on two of the many souls of late-Romantic Russia: the lyrical side of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 and the pyrotechnics of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The evening will mark the double debut of American conductor Alan Gilbert and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, the prestigious German ensemble he has led since 2019.
Considered almost unplayable due to the high level of virtuosity required of the soloist, “Rach 3” is entrusted to the great Uzbek pianist Yefim Bronfman, dubbed the “brontosaurus” by Philip Roth in his novel The Human Stain, who performed this transcendental work at the Lingotto Auditorium in 2004.
