PASSEGGIATA DELLA CURA: DALLA FISICA DELLE STREGHE ALLA MEDICINA MODERNA

CULTURE & TRADITION
On the occasion of the event in Rivera di Almese ‘Art, Handicrafts, Music and... Siole Pien-e (stuffed onions)’, a nature walk to discover witch medicine and other curiosities.
Starting with the narration of the history of the Tower and the Ricetto di San Mauro in the hamlet of Rivera, we will take a leap back in time more than 1,000 years, when witchcraft was still the mainstay in the treatment of the ills that afflicted the population.
We will move to the centre of Almese, where we can still visit the house where Scipione Riva Rocci, the doctor who more than 150 years ago invented the mercury sphygmomanometer, an instrument still used today to measure blood pressure, a symbol of modern medicine, lived. From here we will walk up to the Sanctuary of Mary Mother of the Church and discover some traces of the fascist era that are still well preserved.
