The Nitto ATP Finals 2024 in Torino promise an exciting doubles tournament, with pairs embodying experience, talent and freshness.
Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavic, making their debut together, have made a strong impression this season, winning four prestigious titles: Roland Garros, Hong Kong, Geneva and Cincinnati. Not only did they show versatility on different surfaces, but they also reached the final at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, a testament to their high level of competition. Pavic, who qualified for the ATP Finals for the fifth time and with different partners, thus finds himself in the doubles elite again with a new partner, while Arévalo is experiencing his second experience in the tournament.
Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson are the fourth pair to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Torino after a very successful season. The Australians won their first Slam title together at the US Open, becoming the first Australians to win in New York since 2003. Their victory at the US Open came after a disappointment at Wimbledon, where they lost in the final despite three match points. During 2024, the pair also won in Dallas, Los Cabos and Houston. Thompson, competing in the ATP Finals for the first time, won the Madrid Masters 1000 with Sebastian Korda, while Purcell was a reserve in 2022.
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos are now a certainty: qualified for the fifth consecutive season, were finalists in 2020 and 2021 and reached the semifinals last year. Their season was punctuated by solid performances, with finals in Auckland, Buenos Aires and Indian Wells and Slam semifinals in Paris and Wimbledon. A close-knit pair, experienced and adept at maintaining a high level of play.
Italian pride comes with Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, who for the first time qualify an all-Italian duo for the Finals since they have been held in Turin. Their first full season together was a continuous climb, crowned by three titles (Buenos Aires, Halle and Beijing) and two Slam finals reached at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. For Vavassori, a Torino native, it will be a great thrill to play in his hometown, while Bolelli returns to the Finals after his 2015 experience paired with Fognini.
