Accabadora: a word of Sardinian tradition that takes its root from the Spanish acabar, meaning to end, to kill.
Maria at the age of six is given to fill'e anima to Bonaria Urrai, a seamstress who lives alone and who on occasion becomes an accabadora: she helps dying people to die. Maria grows in admiration of this new mother, until the day she discovers her true nature and flees. She will only return on her aunt's deathbed to take care of her and resolve the conflict that torments her.
From the novel by Michela Murgia.
