Verrua Savoia’s large red and white bench number 171 is located in the hamlet of Collegna on the beautiful ’piste’ hill. The bench can be reached from Provincial Road 110, after the hamlet of Collegna. The site is located in a place with an amazing panorama: the hills of the Turin area, the plain, the river Po, the historic fortress of Verrua Savoia and, as a backdrop, the Alpine arc.
The idea of installing a large bench in a scenic spot was started in 2010 by Chris Bangle, an American designer transplanted in Clavesana, and has been very successful. Sitting on the giant benches one feels like a child, with feet dangling, ready to marvel at the beauty, in this case, the beauty of the Locana valley with its mountains. The Big Benches are an iconic attraction that, thanks to the Big Bench Community Project (BBCP), supports the local communities, tourism, shopkeepers and craftsmanship of the villages in which they are located. The benches are always located in places from which memorable landscapes can be observed. There is an official passport with stamps of the Big Benches.
