Parco Lungo Po Machiavelli

Urban Park
The Parco Lungo Po Machiavelli is located between the Regina Margherita and Vittorio Emanuele I bridges; ancient buildings of great architectural value overlook this stretch of the river.
The new Regina bridge, completed in 1972, was built alongside the old bridge which was subsequently demolished. It was conceived as part of a program to improve city traffic, when the old bridge became unable to contain the increasing city traffic. The Vittorio Emanuele I bridge, which connects Piazza Vittorio Veneto to Piazza Gran Madre di Dio, was one of the first works built in Turin by Napoleon’s imperial administration. The technical characteristics of the monument made it, at that time, an avant-garde construction from an architectural and structural point of view.
The two bridges are important for the Vanchiglia neighbourhood; they connect the historic centre of the city to green areas (Giò park, Michelotti park) and the hills.
