The Mirum Musicis Ensemble presents *Le Goût Etranger, Façon de la Chine*, featuring a fascinating instrument: the gu zheng.
This concert brings together traditional Chinese melodies with the exotic flavour of the music of Couperin, Marais and other 18th-century French composers.
During the reign of Louis XIV, the encounter between East and West reached its zenith in music thanks to the fascinating legacy of the Jesuit missionaries. Matteo Ricci and Joseph-Marie Amiot were key figures in opening the doors to cultural exchange between Europe and China, with a particular focus on music.
The gu zheng is a traditional Chinese stringed instrument with a history spanning over 2,500 years. Originating in ancient China during the Tang and Song dynasties, it became a prestigious court instrument and was taught in imperial schools. Today, it is widely played and used in a variety of musical genres around the world.
The Antiqua 2026 concerts are accompanied by a small art installation created by the La Voce dei Venti Association.
