A special friendship between music and medicine: Johannes Brahms and Theodor Billroth.
Reading-Concert with Alice Fumero as narrator, readings by Marco Panzanaro, music by Johannes Brahms performed live on the piano by Maestro Matteo Costa.
The physician Theodor Billroth, considered a pioneer in many areas of surgery as he was the first in history to perform an oesophagectomy and a laryngectomy, was also a pianist and musician.
He shared this passion in a long and deep friendship with Brahms, of which a rich collection of letters remains. Reading some of these letters allows us to reconstruct the thoughts of a figure who has been unjustly forgotten: a man of great culture, gifted with a particular acumen, who left us reflections on art, medicine, creativity and ethics that are extraordinarily modern.
Retracing their friendship will bring us closer to an intimate and private Brahms and take us back to a time when music and science were not so far apart...
