The knight’s armour

Culture & Tradition

In Susa, the Middle Ages have left traces that still speak to us today.
In the bell tower of San Giusto, a warrior on horseback painted in the early decades of the 11th century is one of the oldest and rarest examples of Romanesque art in the valley.

It is in this area, within the walls of Adelaide Castle, that ‘Principi e Cavalieri’ comes to life on Friday evening — an evening dedicated to the medieval world organised by Medieval Art.

Archivist Guido Mones will guide the audience through the Savoy documents with the lecture “The War of the Princes: Ideal and Reality in the Savoy Documents”, exploring the gap between the chivalric ideal and historical reality.
Following this, master blacksmith Mastro Corradin will demonstrate the dressing of a knight: a live demonstration comparing armour from the 13th and 15th centuries.
