Clifton, a small village in the British countryside, 1898.
West Fen House is not like other houses. Trapped on the edge between Clifton and the marsh, it seems to be an entity unto itself, a soul chained to its own mystery. The villagers avoid talking about it, its worn walls hide a dark history and the fog that envelops it is said to carry the cries of those trapped inside.
When Adam Davies, a young solicitor, arrives to put the villa of the late Emily Butler, widow of Lewis, up for sale, he finds a house that seems to have a life of its own. He decides to complete his work despite warnings from all the inhabitants of Clifton. It is said that the Widow, perpetually shrouded in mourning, still weeps within those walls, accompanied by the incessant whispering of shadows that seem to creep through the fog. But what is she looking for?
La Vedova is a show inspired by the legend of La Llorona, the widowed mother who manifests herself with the heart-rending lament of her weeping, condemned to wander eternally for the death of her drowned son. Set in the Victorian era, the show nods to the visual language of horror cinema and aims to bring even the youngest audiences back to the theatre, mixing gothic atmospheres, mystery and narrative tension in an enveloping and surprising staging
