This 8-kilometre, 4-hour walk follows part of the route of the Via Francigena Val di Susa, which has also been made accessible to all. With its major mountain passes, Montgenèvre and Mont Cenis, this region has always been a privileged bridge between Italy and continental Europe.
The intense influx of people along the Via Francigena led to a constant flow of ideas and exchange of knowledge, languages and religious beliefs, all of which contributed to the development of a vibrant European culture in the valley. Monasteries of international renown such as the Abazia di Novalesa and the Sacra di San Michele on Monte Pirchiriano were built here.
