Groscavallo

Groscavallo Neve

Perched at an altitude of 1,110 meters in the picturesque Val Grande, Groscavallo beckons nature and history enthusiasts alike.

This charming village, once a renowned holiday destination, unveils a treasure trove of historical gems, including the Sanctuary of N. Signora di Loreto, accessible via an evocative 444-step staircase. Here, the enigmatic "Black Madonna," an ebony wood sculpture, captivates visitors with its aura of mystery.

For cinema buffs, a visit to Villa Pastrone is a must. This Liberty-style residence was home to the celebrated filmmaker Giovanni Pastrone, the visionary behind "Cabiria," the longest and most renowned Italian silent film, produced in 1914 with screenplays by Gabriele D'Annunzio.

For outdoor enthusiasts, we recommend an excursion to the Dolmen del Colombin, a low-difficulty itinerary that crosses the Vallone del Rio Colombin to reach the spectacular "Cascate" (waterfalls) and the famous "Dolmen", a gigantic stone construction still shrouded in mystery.
