The Museum, envisioned by Charles Emmanuel III in 1731 and officially established at the behest of Charles Albert in 1842, was moved to the Mastio in 1893 to be further expanded for Italia ’61. In 2008, however, the building was returned to the City for a ten-year renovation and the collections moved first to Via Bologna and then to Piazza Rivoli.

From prehistoric artefacts collected by the director and archaeologist Angelo Angelucci in the 19th century to one of the Turkish bombardments that crushed the resistance of Constantinople in 1453 to Cold War self-propelled aircraft and missiles. And then a unique miscellany of homeland history, with Carlo Alberto’s diary and the two hearses that carried Umberto’s coffin to the Pantheon after the regicide at Monza.

The Museum has two locations:

- institutional headquarters at the Mastio della Cittadella in Corso Galileo FERRARIS n. 0,;
with free admission Monday to Thursday from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 and 1.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. Fridays only in the morning.

- Museum Depot at the "AMIONE" Barracks, Corso Lecce n. 10. The depot is temporarily closed to the public.
