Art and music in the church of Santa Croce in Ivrea.
The collaboration between the Carlo Botta High School and the Confraternity of Santa Croce has been going on for years. The collaboration between the two institutions will now give rise to a musical event to be held in the setting of the frescoes of the Confraternity's small church, taking advantage of its magnificent acoustics.
Two students from the high school, cellists Aurora Boltri and Teresa Mainardi, will perform the musical event, playing selected pieces from Johann Sebastian Bach's Suites for solo cello. The audience will therefore have the opportunity to listen to refined Baroque music while admiring the murals by Luca Rossetti, which, following the restoration of the dome, the presbytery and the apse area, have largely regained their former splendour.
To emphasise how Baroque culture manifests itself in various fields, including figurative art, architecture, literature and music, Dr Annachiara Traversa, a former student of Botta, will offer some reflections on La parola dipinta: poesia e immagini nell'arte barocca (The painted word: poetry and images in Baroque art) before the musical event.
At the end of the concert, there will be an opportunity to take a guided tour of the church's murals: Barbara Manucci and Lauro Mattalucci of the Confraternita di Santa Croce will take turns accompanying the groups.
