Starting from beech woods and clearings, the trail winds through tiny hamlets and takes us higher and higher, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. As we reach the Alpe della Balma mountain hut, the landscape takes on the typical high-altitude character, with scree slopes and grassy meadows. One final climb and Lake Sottano will appear like a crystal-clear jewel.
Tour details:
Start: Borgata Molè (Forno di Coazze).
Difficulty: E – elevation gain: approx. 1000 m – distance: approx. 12 km round trip.
Meeting point: 8.15 am in Piazza Molines, Giaveno (meeting point so we can travel up with as few cars as possible).
Return to the cars: around 4.00 pm.
What to bring: layers of clothing (T-shirt, fleece, jacket, long trousers), a hat and light gloves, a packed lunch and energy snacks, a water bottle holding at least 0.75 litres, sunglasses and sun cream.
