The exhibition presents the painter’s early works to the public for the first time, revealing a frenetic synthesis of the various experiences the artist had gained, which enabled him to develop a wholly personal artistic language.
The more than fifty works on display, some of which have never been seen or exhibited before, come from prestigious private collections and major public institutions.
From the workshop of Giovanni Martino Spanzotti, to the fresco cycles in Sant’Anna in Camprena (1503–1504) and in the cloister of Monteoliveto (1505–1508) in the Siena area, and on to his extraordinary sojourns in Rome, supported by the patronage of Agostino Chigi, Sodoma undertook a journey that the exhibition aims to reconstruct.
