The Sun King danced. And you?
When Jean-Baptiste Lully, a composer of Italian origin, established himself as the principal musician at the court of Versailles, the expression Le Roi Danse was coined: Louis XIV was himself a virtuoso dancer, and the grandiose festivities that enlivened the court provided an opportunity to showcase this to the world through countless pages of opéra-ballet.
This Open Dancing event recreates the festive atmosphere of the French courts between the 17th and 18th centuries, featuring Lully’s most famous dance suites and the poetic airs de cour by Marais, Feuillet and Lambert. But this time, it won’t be the Sun King dancing: it will be you, guided by the expert steps of a choreographer and expert in historical dance.
