Comedy of misunderstandings by Georges Feydeau.
The story, told through a complicated mechanism of the comedy of misunderstandings, is that of a libertine and penniless lover who wants to finally settle down with a “girl from a good family” but is unable to break off his relationship with Lucette, a singer in Belle Epoque Paris who, on the contrary, is hired to liven up his engagement party.
When everything seems to be falling apart, the irrationality of love intervenes to overcome things and repair the irreparable.
Georges Feydeau is considered, after Molière, one of the greatest authors of French comic theatre. Many of his farces, a much more correct term than “comedies”, are still performed and applauded today, in particular A Box Closed, The Ball and Chain, The Turkey, Tailor for a Lady, The Hotel of Free Trade.
