The Fondazione Marionette Grilli ETS exhibition is dedicated to the extremely rich tradition of Chinese puppet theatre, an art form that has its roots in ancient times. For centuries, puppet theatre in China has represented not only popular entertainment but also a vehicle for cultural, spiritual and political transmission.
Wood-carved puppets, glove puppets and finely carved shadow figures tell legends, historical dramas and myths with extraordinary scenic grace and technical skill. Chinese shadows, in particular, are renowned for the elegance of their movements projected onto illuminated screens, creating poetic and visually fascinating narratives.
Through a rare selection of original works, the exhibition offers a privileged look at an artistic heritage that combines theatre, craftsmanship, music and spirituality.
Marionettes, Puppets and Shadows from China is an exclusive preview of the major international exhibition The Figures of Dreams. Marionettes, puppets, shadows in oriental theatre, from October 2025 at Casa Gianduja.
