On tuesday 17th june 2025, at 6.30 pm, in collaboration with acme (amici e collaboratori del museo egizio) we will host a lecture held by Alejandro Jimenez-Serrano (University of jaén).
In 2008, the university of jaén resumed archaeological excavations at qubbet el-hawa. the primary objectives of the new research project were to establish an interdisciplinary research team to study a specific group of tombs that had either never been excavated or were only partially explored: the funerary complexes of the 12th dynasty in the necropolis, where the elite of elephantine were buried.
During these excavations in the southeastern area of qubbet el-hawa, several new tombs were discovered, many of which were still intact. these findings have allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the necropolis' organization during the 12th dynasty, as well as to identify some potentially local funerary customs reflected in these burials.
The lecture will take place in our conference room and it will be held in english.
Admission is free with a reservation at the link tickets.
The lecture will be broadcast via streaming on museum's facebook page and youtube channel.
