80 years have passed since 25 April 1945, which marked a crucial passage in the history of our country: on the occasion of the anniversary of the Liberation, the Turin State Archives are offering a special guided tour, to rediscover through documentary sources the impact of the war on the territory and the value of the Resistance.
The fulcrum of the tour will be the precious War Damages fund, made up of thousands of dossiers relating to compensation claims submitted, starting in the 1940s, to the Turin Finance Department: bombed houses, destroyed churches, looted factories, vehicles, furnishings and even requisitioned foodstuffs: each dossier - accompanied by drawings, photographs and metric calculations - recounts a wound inflicted by the conflict, but also the determination to rebuild.
The tour will also lead visitors among the documents that bear witness to the history of the State Archives during the war: the efforts of the staff to save the archival fonds threatened by the allied bombardments, the clandestine activity of some employees who offered refuge to the CLN within the walls of the Institute, the post-war efforts to preserve and pass on the memory of the Resistance.
