The latest volume published in the Colombano Romean Ecomuseum series traces the history of Vauban’s planned projects for Exilles and the defence of the borders of the Upper French Dora Valley prior to the Treaty of Utrecht, which formalised the cession of the territory to the House of Savoy: it features a wealth of illustrations and partly unpublished documents from the French Army archives at Vincennes, dating from the late 17th to early 18th centuries.
The book bears witness to the French’s last-ditch attempt to defend the territories of the Dauphiné on this side of the mountains and the end of the Escartons.
