Walter Bonatti: mountaineering legend, tireless explorer, photographer and storyteller capable of turning his exploits into immortal stories. The memory of such a rich life is deposited in his archive, preserved at the Museomontagna: an immense treasure of documents, images and objects. And from the meticulous tidying up work carried out by the Museum, previously unpublished material continues to emerge, revealing ever new facets of this inimitable character, an inexhaustible source of inspiration and amazement.
It is precisely to one of his lesser known and more surprising faces that the new exhibition produced by the Museomontagna is dedicated. Walter Bonatti, in fact, over thirty years ago became a comic book character. And he did so not only by inspiring cartoonists and scriptwriters with his adventures, but by collaborating directly with them, in an evocative dialogue between lived history and graphic creation.
The exhibition Walter Bonatti - I fumetti ritrovati (Walter Bonatti - The rediscovered comics) and the book of the same name published by RCS Solferino, both edited by journalist Angelo Ponta, explore this vein for the first time, offering a journey through illustrations, sketches and scripts.
