Tours and Activities

To leave is first of all to come out of oneself. Breaking through that crust of selfishness that tries to imprison us in our ego. To leave is to stop circling around us, as if we were at the centre of the world and of life. To leave is not to allow ourselves to be locked into the narrow problems of the small world to which we belong: whatever the importance of this world, humanity is greater and it is it that we must serve. To leave is not to devour kilometres, cross seas, fly at supersonic speeds.

To leave is first of all to open ourselves to others, to discover them, to meet them. To open ourselves to ideas, including those contrary to our own, is to have the breath of a good walker. Happy is he who understands and lives this thought: ‘If you disagree with me, you make me richer’. To have a man close to you who always agrees, even before you ask him unconditionally, is not to have a companion, but a shadow.

It is possible to travel alone. But a good walker knows that the great journey is that of life and it demands companions.

Blessed is he who feels eternally on the journey and in every neighbour he sees a desired companion.

A good walker cares for discouraged and weary companions. He perceives the moment when they begin to despair. He takes them where he finds them. He listens to them. With intelligence and gentleness, above all with love, he restores courage and gusto to the path. To go on just to go on, is not really walking. To walk is to go towards something; it is to foresee the arrival, the landing.

But there is walking and walking. For Abrahamic minorities, it is to set out and help others begin the same march to build a more just and humane world.
