Castagneto Po is a municipality of about 1,750 inhabitants located on the Collina Torinese south of the Po River and is made up of several hamlets that rise on the hill opposite Chivasso.
The earliest documents record the village as the property of the Abbey of San Michele della Chiusa.
From the 13th century it came under the dominion of the Savoy-Achaia family, but for a long time had a tormented life, due to its strategic position that exposed it to attempts of conquest by the powers that acted in the area, until its destruction by French troops in 1705.
In the following centuries, the town instead experienced the quiet life of an agricultural village, and due to its hillside location was not affected by the industrial expansion of the rest of the Chivassese area.
Of particular interest are the castle, built to replace the fortification destroyed in 1705, and above all the Romanesque church of San Genesio. It is located in a wooded area not far from the village; founded in the 12th century, it preserves the choir, bell tower and two apses from the original construction, while the façade and side walls were completely rebuilt in the early 20th century.
