It owes its name to the tower from the year 1000. It is an important centre of the Waldensian valleys with various monuments, a museum and three libraries. It is a dynamic reality, to be visited by following the pedestrian island that starts in Piazza S. Martino with the Catholic Church, the Mauritian Priory and the Fountain of Carlo Alberto and continues in the historic centre to reach the Waldensian area, with the Temple, the Waldensian House where the Synod meets every year, the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation with its museum, archives and library; the Waldensian College, now a high school, and the Waldensian Guesthouse.
Throughout the year at the Civica Galleria d'arte contemporanea Filippo Scroppo and at the Centro Culturale Valdese it is possible to visit exhibitions and attend meetings and conferences. The 'A Tower of Books' festival is organised there every year. Torre Pellice is an ideal base for hikers and mountain enthusiasts, who can quickly reach the alpine refuges and surrounding peaks.
