Letizia Battaglia. L’opera 1970-2020

From 17/10/2026 to 07/02/2027
Culture & Tradition

The exhibition explores the life and work of the great Sicilian photographer Letizia Battaglia, showcasing the richness and diversity of her artistic expression and her unwavering social and civic commitment. It is an intense journey through over 200 images, including her famous photographs of the tragic events linked to the Mafia, in which news reporting is interwoven with social commentary in a courageous interpretation of the photojournalist’s craft.

The exhibition also highlights the photographer’s desire to capture the soul of her homeland, Palermo and Sicily, portraying both its light and shade: the daily hardships and the dignity of the people, love and joy, the beauty in young faces, the ritual and identity-defining aspects of religious festivals, right through to the poignant realities of life in a psychiatric hospital.

The exhibition is rounded off by 22 magazines with which the photographer has collaborated – and of which, in some cases, she was also the founder and editor – as well as a documentary film about her life.
