The seventh stage of the ‘Antiche strade sulla Serra’ trail, a guided hike through chestnut and birch woods.
We will leave some cars near the Torre della Bastia in Chiaverano and drive the rest to the starting point in Torrazzo (Bi).
Torrazzo too was founded at the crossroads of the routes linking Eporedia and Biella: from the ancient village of Paerno (Ciucarun), from Bollengo, Chiaverano and from Broglina (Magnano).
Passing along the highest ridge of the Serra Morenica, we will come across Roc Tre Confini and Roc Basariund, large erratic boulders used as landmarks for the boundaries of the municipalities of Bollengo, Torrazzo, Burolo, Chiaverano and Sala Biellese.
We will arrive at the stone Torre della Bastia, built in 1292 by the Bishop of Vercelli and destroyed by Chiaverano in 1308. It is now made of wood and offers a stunning view of the inner plain of the Morainic Amphitheatre from the top.
Features:
• length 6.8 km
• elevation gain 190 m
