Chestnut groves are a significant component of the Italian landscape and an area of biodiversity.
Traditional management and the open forest character guarantee a high level of biodiversity, including many rare or protected species such as orchids.
The presence of ancient trees, which are sporadic in other forests, contributes to the conservation value of chestnut groves, as they can host valuable species.
Giovanna Pezzi, naturalist and confirmed researcher at the University of Bologna in Environmental and Applied Botany, conducts her research in the field of Vegetation and Landscape Ecology.
