Loosely based on the biography *Memoirs of a Madam* by Goldie, who rose from being a prostitute in a Saint Louis brothel to become the owner of luxury brothels in New Orleans.

The story is set at the turn of the 20th century, a period of political, musical and social upheaval that the women of the night learn about from the brothel’s parlour; the Casino is their university.

Among Goldie’s companions, with their stories of life on the margins, Kim stands out: a transvestite who dreams of one day having a woman’s body.

Whilst in Europe Dora Richter performs the first sex reassignment operation in history, Kim can only feel free within Goldie’s Casino.
