The mountain above Borgone is rich in stories, not only related to stone extraction and craftsmanship but also to vine cultivation. Thanks to excellent sun exposure and numerous rock faces that retain heat during the day and release it slowly at night, this area was historically used for vineyards. Today, in place of vineyards, some locals have begun cultivating olive trees, a plant that was already present in the Susa Valley in ancient times.
The itinerary follows an easy route along mule tracks and trails among dry stone walls, leading to small hamlets and ancient terraced fields, once used for vine cultivation and now partly converted to olive groves. We will also explore the work of the "picapera" (stone cutters), passing by the fascinating Roca Fourà and the ancient shelter of the stone masons.
At the end of the hike, we will visit Oliveto Rossetto, guided by the producing family, to discover the first 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil produced in the Susa Valley (€8 per person, to be paid on-site and not included in the hiking tour cost).
This event includes both the hike and the visit to the olive grove; participation in only one of the two activities is not possible.
