From Pragelato, a route sets off to explore one of Piedmont’s most picturesque Alpine roads: the Strada dell’Assietta.
This route, originally built as a military infrastructure to link and monitor the high Alpine valleys, now offers an extraordinary experience combining history, nature and breathtaking views. Travelling along it, you pass through high-altitude landscapes characterised by vast pastures, alpine meadows and rich biodiversity, with spectacular views of the main peaks of the Cottian Alps. A borderland where trade, armies, local communities and diverse cultures have long intersected.
Its military origins tell of a past shaped by fortifications, trails and troop movements, and a present defined by the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand and Orsiera Rocciavré Nature Parks, managed by the Management Body for the Protected Areas of the Cottian Alps.
A leisurely journey at high altitude, aboard a specially dedicated shuttle bus, accompanied by a cultural guide, where every bend reveals a new perspective and every place holds a story to tell.
