A special occasion to pay homage, on the centenary of his birth, to the great composer Luciano Berio, a protagonist of 20th-century Italian music.
Performing on stage is the Veles Quintet, a young and talented ensemble born from the collaboration between the wind instrument classes of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Turin: Giulia Bulgarini flute, Loris Palladino clarinet, Cecilia Denovellis horn, Ivan Rados oboe, Emanuele Turcol bassoon. The programme includes the ironic and profound suite Opus Number Zoo, a series of musical tales for quintet and spoken voice in which expressive animals reflect, dance and fight on universal themes.
This is followed by two works that complete the journey between ancient and modern: the Quintetto for wind instruments by Giorgio Federico Ghedini, Berio's teacher and a profound connoisseur of ancient music, and a brilliant and engaging Fantasia on themes from Gioacchino Rossini's Barber of Seville.
The presentation and listening guide is entrusted to musicologist Cristiana Riffero, internationally renowned for her studies on vocal repertoire and 20th century music.
