The Festa di San Martino returns to Carmagnola on Sunday 9 November with a day of events in the historic city centre, featuring cultural initiatives, rural traditions, shows and activities for all ages.
Throughout the day, Via Valobra will host Portici da Leggere, a book market exhibition, while in Piazza Martiri the traditional Mercantico dell’Antiquariato will take place. Also along Via Valobra, visitors will be able to admire a display of vintage tractors, and between Piazza S. Agostino and Piazza Garavella children will enjoy traditional wooden games of the past. In the San Rocco area, the historical reenactment “C’era una volta...” will bring local agricultural traditions back to life, illustrating the production chain of seasonal vegetables.
For children, animated readings entitled “Storie di terra e di mare” will be held at the Museo Civico Navale. The Salone Antichi Bastioni will host photography with the exhibition Gente and the photography contest S. Martino Photolife, organised by Circolo Fotografico La Fonte. Registrations will be open from 9:00 to 11:00, with awards at 18:00. In the morning, the programme also includes the Camminata W.I.M. at Parco Cascina Vigna.
In the afternoon, Piedmontese cultural tradition will take centre stage with Ij danseur dël Pilon, who will perform from 14:30 along Via Valobra with the itinerant show “L’estate di San Martino nella tradizione popolare”, featuring songs, dances and stories from rural heritage. At 14:00 in Piazza Sant’Agostino the traditional costumed castagnata “La Brusatà” will also return, offering roasted chestnuts free of charge while supplies last.
At 15:30, at the Antichi Bastioni, there will be a presentation of the book “La verità è un’altra cosa” with the author Maria Enrica Ternengo. The day will conclude at 21:00 with the theatre evening Poor Gateau – Canto XI del Purgatorio, performed by actor Saulo Lucci, known for his original storytelling work inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy.
