Mary Magdalene is one of the sacred female figures of greatest interest to many artists and musicians, and especially in the 17th century she became the subject of pages of great inspiration.
The programme is built around the Lamento della Maddalena sopra quel d'Ariadna con aggiunta di C.C., an almost unknown composition, studied and partly reconstructed by Dulcedo Ardens, which recounts a moment of despair experienced by the Saint after the ascension of Jesus: it is a contrafactum of Monteverdi's famous Lamento d'Arianna, with Italian lyrics and interesting new musical additions.
