EVALUATE YOUR FITNESS LEVEL
Before setting off, take into account the technical data of the route: assess your psychophysical state and your training level. Find out about the current status of the route by contacting local mountain huts, bike guides and tourist offices.
CHECK THE ROUTE IN ADVANCE AND STAY ON ROUTE
Download the track to follow it offline. Stick to directions and always keep on track.
RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Remember to leave the place you visit clean and do not leave or take anything along the trail. If the area is used for grazing, remember to always close the gates once you have passed.
CHOOSE SUITABLE EQUIPMENT AND GEAR
Carry technical footwear, a water supply, rain jacket and hat, a change of clothes, food, a head torch and a first aid kit; on the bike always wear a helmet and protectors and carry an emergency repair kit.
WATCH OUT FOR SIGNS ON THE ROUTE
Follow the signposts with destinations and directions. Carry a map (paper or digital) and possibly a GPS receiver to track your position.
ANTICIPATE THE WEATHER
Check the weather forecast: it is important that the weather is stable, especially if you face a route at altitude where it can change quickly.
IT IS BETTER TO SET OFF IN COMPANY OR TO INFORM SOMEONE OF YOUR CHOSEN ITINERARY

IF YOU DON’T FEEL UP TO IT, TURN BACK
If you are tired or in case of the weather changes for the worse, find the easiest way to go back, or to the closest safe place: it is always better than carrying on.
SHARE THE ROUTE
If you are on shared trails with pedestrians or other users, moderate your speed and make use of common sense and respect. If you are on a vehicular road, respect traffic rules and watch for moving vehicles.
