Nobili Tappeti - Noble Rugs

From 06/04/2025 to 04/05/2025
Culture & Tradition

The exhibition NOBILI TAPPETI Testimonianze d'arte tessile orientale tra XVI e XIX secolo da collezioni private curated by Luca Emilio Brancati, conceived and produced in collaboration with the Rotary Club Cuorgnè e Canavese and the Mirco Cattai Gallery, is on display at the Agliè Castle.

The stars of the exhibition are more than forty Oriental carpets, made in Persia, Caucasus and Anatolia between the 16th and 19th centuries, from private collections in the area.
The carpets bear witness to a millenary tradition, born as a response to a need on the part of the nomadic peoples of the East who moved frequently with their flocks and needed an easily transportable bed to insulate themselves from the cold of the mountains or to find shelter from the sun and sand of the desert.

The exhibition opens in the large entrance hall of the castle, with a section devoted to specimens from the Tabriz area, a mountainous territory in north-western Persia, at the crossroads of the trade routes to Russia and Anatolia.
The exhibition route then continues in the scenic Galleria alle Tribune, where an initial nucleus of 16th and 17th century carpets from Ushak, in western Anatolia can be seen: exported in Ottoman times by Genoese and Venetian merchants to European courts, carpets such as these appear in the paintings of painters such as Hans Holbein, Tintoretto and Lorenzo Lotto, from whom the names of the decorative types were derived.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until Sunday 4 May 2025 and can be visited during the Castle's opening hours.
