A faithful reflection of Carignano's history, culture, customs and traditions, the Sagra del Ciapinabò enjoys the distinction of being the only festival in Italy dedicated to this tuber.
Ciapinabò, in Piedmontese dialect, is Jerusalem artichoke, also known as German turnip, Jerusalem artichoke or Canadian sunflower. It grows mostly spontaneously in fields and is included in both the Basket of Typical Products of the Province of Turin and the Atlas of Regional Products.
The festival highlights the many uses of this tuber, which began to be cultivated, especially in Piedmont and Veneto, and is increasingly present in gastronomy. It is also an opportunity to meet and bring together farmers and academics, chefs and food and wine connoisseurs, artists, artisans and traders.
