The Carema Grape and Wine Festival is back, promoting the image of the heroic viticulture of the Canavese area.
It is a celebration of Carema's thousand-year-old wine-making culture, symbolised by the Carema D.O.C.
What makes the landscape unique is the so-called topiary architecture, based on terraces built with stone walls, on top of which stand truncated cone-shaped pillars that support the pergola-trained vineyards.
This year's event is symbolically enhanced by the recognition of the Mombarone Terraced Vineyard and Agricultural Landscapes, located in the municipalities of Borgofranco d'Ivrea, Carema, Nomaglio and Settimo Vittone, as the first site in Piedmont to be designated a national heritage site.
The most eagerly awaited event will take place on the evening of Saturday 27 September, when the 19th edition of “Andar per Cantine Antiche” (Walking through Ancient Cellars) is scheduled. This is an evening walk/travelling dinner in the historic centre, lit by torches and enlivened by musical entertainment, where you can taste the best wines of Carema and its surroundings in historic cellars and savour traditional Piedmontese dishes at the five refreshment points located along the route.
