Dad or Alive stems from a question that resonates across an entire generation: is bringing a child into the world today an act of courage or recklessness?
In an era marked by climate crises, economic precariousness, global instability and growing eco-anxiety, the desire to become parents clashes with the fear of a fragile future – one that is difficult to imagine and even more complex to convey.
The performance navigates this conflict with sincerity and emotional depth, transforming doubts, confessions and bursts of vitality into shared theatrical material.
Word and sound do not coexist as separate layers but seek each other out, interrupt one another and amplify one another. The music does not merely accompany: it argues, contradicts and supports both what is said and what remains unspeakable.
Light becomes an active part of the stage grammar. It reinforces cues, amplifies details and illuminates the slightest gestures, making visible the sonic fabric that permeates the stage. Voice, live electronics and video mapping thus compose a shared score that holds together content, perception and movement.
*Dad or Alive* gives voice to a collective question: how do we grow up, and how do we help someone else grow up, whilst the world changes before our very eyes?
It is an intimate and political exploration that speaks to those who today ask themselves not only ‘do I want a child?’ but, above all, ‘in what kind of world will they live?’.
