But what is the hurdy gurdy? The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed musical instrument of very ancient origin still used in many European countries for the performance of traditional folk music. The strings are set into vibration by the rubbing of the edge of a wheel operated by means of a crank; the edge of the wheel must be sprinkled with pitch. Sunday 3 August:10.30 a.m., Ghirondando walk with meeting point at Piazza Pragelatesi nel Mondo, followed by an aperitif organised by the Rivet d'Or holiday farm. 3 pm, itinerant Jam Session with the festival musicians.
