How much did it cost to govern a state in the sixteenth century? How were armies, public works and reforms financed? Who set the value of the currency, and how were the resources found to enable the Duchy to grow?
Behind the history of the House of Savoy lie not only battles, palaces and great figures, but also coins, budgets, taxes and economic decisions that helped transform the Duchy into a modern state
Together with historian Andrea Pennini, and in collaboration with the Royal Museums of Turin, the Museo del Risparmio offers a journey through the Turin of Emanuele Filiberto and Carlo Emanuele I, to discover how the management of public finances accompanied the birth of the Savoy capital and the consolidation of ducal power. Through videos produced by the Museum and discussions with guests, the audience will be able to view the history of the dynasty from an original perspective, where economics, power and art are constantly intertwined.
An opportunity to rediscover the history of Turin through a fresh lens, illustrating how the economic decisions of the past continue to resonate today.
