The Pinacoteca Francesco Tabusso in Rubiana hosts the exhibition Il sogno rivelato (The Revealed Dream), a unique opportunity to explore Surrealism in Piedmont with a privileged look at artistic production from the post-World War II period to the present day.
The exhibition focuses on Turin's fertile cultural terrain, a true crossroads for artists who were able to translate the suggestions of European Surrealism into new and personal forms.
The protagonist is the Surfanta group, a term that combines 'surreal' and 'fantastic'. The movement was founded by Lorenzo Alessandri and brought together painters such as Enrico Colombotto Rosso, Raffaele Pontecorvo, Giovanni Macciotta, Silvano Gilardi (known as Abacuc), Lamberto Camerini and the sculptor Mario Molinari. These artists, each with a personal language, share a desire to explore the marvellous, the visionary and the uncanny. Their work represents an important expression of an atypical Italian surrealism, often close to the world of symbolism, esotericism and psychoanalysis.
Also on show will be Donatella Merlo's work La scarpetta rossa (The Red Slipper on Fire)(1927- 2014), the only female presence in the exhibition. Merlo studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin as a pupil of Felice Casorati and continued the family artistic tradition of her grandfather Camillo, her father Metello and her uncle, Felice Vellan, well-known landscape painters active between the 19th and 20th century.
The exhibition also features the work Da Goya - Visione Fantastica by Francesco Tabusso: a tribute to the Spanish master and one of his most enigmatic masterpieces, the Black Paintings, which decorated the walls of his house in Madrid and are now in the Prado.
Finally, a tribute also to the figure of Italo Cremona, forerunner of enigmatic and cultured atmospheres, who frequented the village of Rubiana as a holidaymaker in the late 1920s.
