On National Urban Trekking Day, we invite you to discover the historic centre of Ivrea with a route dedicated to those who love to experience the city calmly, without rushing, savouring every detail. Strolling through alleys, squares and hidden corners, you can immerse yourself in the city's thousand-year history, admire its centuries-old monuments and be surprised by the curiosities that make it unique.
The Vie del Giubileo route offers an experience that combines culture, art and spirituality: from the symbolic places of the city's religious past to the architecture that tells centuries of history, each stop is an opportunity to reflect, observe and let yourself be guided by the slow pace of discovery.
The URBAN TREK starts from Piazza Ottinetti, the beating heart of the city, which was created in the 19th century when part of the ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara was demolished.
From here, we climb to the upper part of the city to admire the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, whose history dates back to the 10th century. Its neoclassical façade conceals interiors rich in frescoes and history. Don't miss a visit to the Crypt, an evocative setting that preserves traces of the oldest structures and offers a glimpse of medieval Ivrea.
Nearby, the Church of San Nicola da Tolentino enriches the historical and religious profile of the upper town. The Castle of Ivrea, or “Castello dalle Rosse Torri” (Castle of the Red Towers), built in 1358 by Amedeo VI of Savoy, dominates the city.
The tour continues through the alleys and squares of the historic centre, offering characteristic glimpses that tell centuries of history. An itinerary that reveals the different souls of Ivrea, from its Roman foundation to its medieval and modern developments.
