The daughter of travelling actors, born in a Venetian stable at the time of the Napoleonic invasions, Angelica Pavan becomes an acclaimed diva, played by Cristiana Capotondi.

In a prologue and eight scenes, fragments of an extraordinary woman’s life are brought to light, from her birth to her death. Around her, two supporting actors play seven roles – seven figures who left their mark on her life.

Based on historical events from the years when Italy gained its freedom and was united, and on real-life figures, *L’attrice* is a journey between comedy and tragedy, between passions and sorrows, where reality and the stage merge. Angelica is a woman shaped by the theatre and for the theatre, and her life – and therefore the play – is a tribute to the theatre, from the Commedia dell’Arte to Shakespeare, from the sublime to the vulgar. In her daring and eventful life, Angelica also brings to life the history of the years that shaped our country, as if they were right before our eyes, not behind us.
