Culture & Tradition

The Confraternities (cum fraternitas) originated in the Middle Ages to bring ‘peace and mercy’ amongst the people of that era: they were associations of lay believers dedicated to worship and penance, but also to charitable activities closely linked to culture.

We will recount its history, from its foundation to the present day: a history closely linked to that of Torino and, in particular, of Borgo Po, the ‘contrà dij porti’, and which is intertwined with the history of the Fondazione Istituto delle Rosine. The Auxiliary Bishop of Turin, Monsignor Francesco Bottino, in fact, in the second half of the 1950s, in his capacity as parish priest of the Confraternity of the Holy Annunciation, served as President of the Istituto delle Rosine and, above all, as its spiritual guide.
