2 June 1946 marked a historic turning point in Italian history: the Republic was established and, for the first time, women took part in a national election, making a decisive contribution to the establishment of the country’s new democratic order.
Eighty years on from that founding moment, ANSA has organised a photographic exhibition that traces the journey of women’s emancipation, participation and the attainment of their rights across eight decades of Italian history.
The exhibition is a narrative which, through historical images drawn from the archives, traces the key stages in the evolution of women’s role in Italian society.
The exhibition is organised into two sections: a national section, which highlights the major events, historical milestones and iconic figures that have shaped the transformation of our country – from the first female voters and public administrators, to leading figures in institutional, cultural, scientific and economic life – and a regional section which focuses on the many women who have contributed to the history of Piedmont from 1946 to the present day.
