mAFF. mater Art Film Festival is born, the new festival entirely dedicated to audiovisual media in its many forms: the aim is to create the first piece of a home for arthouse and art films, a place that welcomes and promotes the contemporary audiovisual arts movement.
The first edition features 12 international short films dedicated to the theme of motherhood, selected through an international call for entries that saw the participation of many artists from all over the world. The jury is called upon to select the six finalists, which will be presented in an exhibition (opening on Sunday 23rd November) designed to challenge traditional ways of enjoying cinema.
On the highest roof of the Flashback Habitat complex stands a work of art: five red letters, visible from Porta Nuova station. mater is not simply an artist's light but a gift from artistic director Alessandro Bulgini dedicated to all mothers and children born or raised in this place when it was the city's orphanage.
